South Indian Rhythms for Drum Set This manual provides a doorway into the concept of adapting South Indian rhythms and mathematical cells to playing drum set grooves. No prior background in Indian music is required to benefit from these ideas. Hopefully this manual will inspire you to further explore the amazing depth of the Indian rhythm systems from both South (Carnatic) and North (Hindustani) Indian traditions.

From the Introduction

To begin our study of South Indian Rhythms for Drum Set we will explore a method I developed called "Harmonic Time" which encompasses three levels of rhythmic activity: stepping, sticking, and vocalizing various drum syllables. This method is designed to internalize musical; time, groove, and mathematics into the entire body and not just into the head or the hands. This full-immersion and orchestration of multiple rhythm layers will allow you to "feel" how patterns interlock and not just "hear" them. Additionally, this approach will become a direct link for applying the material to drum set.
